Enjoyed Playing In The Family Doubles Paddle Tennis Tournament ✔ Enjoyed Another Wonderful Dinner In The Crystal Dining Room ✔ A Fun Day In Bali With Friends Bob And Glo ✔
Late yesterday afternoon began with the Family Paddle Tennis Tournament. This tournament involved pairing a crew member with a guest and playing doubles Paddle Tennis. Each guest drew a name out of a hat to determine their crew partner. Keith drew Doctor Cornel Engelbrecht.
Before the games began most players practiced.

Keith playing with his partner Doctor Cornel Engelbrecht.
Our first game was very challenging as we were down 2 to 0 and things were not looking so good. Then we went on to win the next three games in a row and then the opposing team one the next one so it was 3 games to 3. In the last game we were down 30 to Love but we came back to win the game.
Is there a doctor in the house?
There were around 18 members of the Crew. Captain Glenn Edvardsen played as did other officers including Vice Captain Nenad Wilheim. Richie who used to be a Lido Deck Steward and along with Ruel works as a Waiter in Silk Road played as did Lido Deck Stewards Brian and Martin.
Fast forward to next game and Keith and the Doctor played against another guest and Singer/Dancer Shane Morley. Shane used to play a lot of Tennis and it showed. He dominated the court. Keith and the Doctor got down 3 games to 0 and then came back to win the next 2. Could they pull off an upset? Would this be the Miracle Mets of 1969? Unfortunately the next game was not in the cards so they lost 4 to 2.
Win or lose Keith had a wonderful time as did most everyone who participated. The game is appropriately names Family Paddle Tennis and all we can say is Family says it all.
The three teams that won were:
Lido Deck Steward Brian and his Passenger teammate got the Gold.
Former Lido Deck Steward and now a Waiter in Silk Road,Richie and his Passenger teammate got the Silver.
Singer/Dancer Shane and his Passenger teammate got the Bronze.
Last evening we dined in the Crystal Dining Room. These are the dinner menus.
Before dinner we listened to John Mentis play the piano in the Crystal Cove. He played "name that tune" for us as he played a variety of Beatles Songs.
Anne Marie with Pianist John Mentis
We began our meal with Tuna Tatare for Keith and a Shrimp Cocktail for Anne Marie. Head Waiter Augusto prepared the Tuns Tartare for Keith.
After we each had a salad, Keith had the Porcine Dusted Fillet of Cod as his entree and thought it was delicious. In fact, he liked it so much we ordered again for this evening.
Anne Marie had the salmon and also had some scallops and forest mushrooms with it.
For dessert, Anne Marie ordered a favorite cake of ours. Yes, it is as delicious (even more so) than it looks.
After dinner we met with one of the officers on the ship for a drink at the Crystal Cove and we also spoke with several other guests.
The ship arrived to Bali last evening at around 10:00 PM.
We enjoyed a nice sleep on the ship in spite of the ship not rocking us to sleep.
Keith was up first and worked out at the Fitness Center. He was alone for almost all of his workout. He stopped by the Lido Cafe for coffee and spoke for quite awhile with Lido Deck Steward Ray. Ray lost the first game with one of the guests (Heather). It was really great as we mentioned earlier for all of us to play together. Lots of fun stories from the game.
Anne Marie worked out afterwards for one hour. We then had breakfast in the room before we met friends Bob and Glo at 9:00 AM.
Unlike last year where we had to tender and the tender drop off area and local town were so-so at best, this time around we docked at a cruise ship terminal located about one hour from the tender drop off of last year. The terminal area was quite nice and it was much more orderly than what we experienced last year.
These are some photos of the pier and the surrounding area.

These locals performed for all of us on the Serenity.
Since we had been to Bali just last year and had a private vehicle and saw so many sites we decided not to book an excursion this time around. Instead, we negotiated for a vehicle and driver at the pier. This was very orderly. A desk was set up and we spoke to the lead person. We negotiated the price and then we spoke with three different drivers and selected the one whose English was quite good and who had a vehicle with air conditioning.
We drove about 55 minutes to a jewelry store called, Angel to Angel which Bob and Glo have visited last year. We passed by several towns and enjoyed the scenery as we made it to the store. About mid-way through our drive some local police were pulling selected vehicles off the road and we were one of them. They seemed to be targeting vehicles carrying tourists and the end result is that our driver had to pay a fee which was the equivalent of $1.50 in United States currency.
The store was quite unique in terms of the physical look of the store which you will see in some of the photos and the jewelry was quite nice. They make all of their jewelry in a factory which is located on site. Anne Marie and Glo each got some jewelry.

When we arrived back to the ship the four of us had lunch up at the Lido Cafe.
Afterwards, Anne Marie visited Bob and Glo's room to look at all of the nice jewelry that Glo had purchased. Keith met up with Bob and enjoyed a nice conversation.
Later, Keith did some reading and writing and Anne Marie walked for an hour on the Promenade Deck.
This evening we will dine at the Crystal Dining Room for the third consecutive evening.

Keith and Anne Marie

Keith, your visit to Bali reminds me of our time there in 1995. We stayed in an Aman Resort. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. It is a beautiful, lush island and the people are so beautiful as well. Once again, thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteKeith and Anne Marie!!!! Oh my goodness, reading of all the Olympic activities is just as we were there with you! Lee and I enjoy what you write; and even more so, as you do all the exertion and we only read of it! Thank you for the almost play-by-play accounts. And we love seeing the photos you post of the crew.
ReplyDeleteGive Bob and Glo a hello from us. We have sailed with them before. However the last we saw them was when SYMPHONY visited their hometown, Charlston, Nov 2007. I can't wait to revist Bali to see for real the store you photographed! How unsual. Thanks again for your blog. I look forward to it each day.
Dear Keith and Anne Marie,
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, as usual, and I love the touch of whimsy in so many of them. I've been looking at the ship web cam and the sea looks like glass, what a nice switch for you. I can't get over the beautiful jewelry store, with a decor like that, you have to think the creations are going to be beautiful.
I'm so glad you and Cornel had the thrill of victory with the first set, to bad you weren't the Come back kids! He's really so much fun.
Miss you both!
love,
Ricki and David
Love the photo of A.M. & the frog.
