Enjoyed Last Evenings World Games Medal Ceremony Where We Each Picked Up A Gold Medal✔ Enjoyed Another Wonderful Dinner In The Crystal Dining Room ✔ Another Fantastic Day At Sea ✔
While we have posted about the World Games for the guests we wanted to note that at the same time the crew has been playing various World Games amongst themselves. Many of the events are held int the evening, but one of the ones during the daytime was the 60 meter dash held yesterday afternoon. They ran mainly two to three at a time with three other crew members timing each of them. These are some photos from that event.
Various crew members waiting for the race to begin.
These two crew members were extremely fast.
Some of you will recognize Head Butler Ural in the Orange Shirt
The crew members at the far end left side is a supervisor of the night crew. The crew member wearing number 32 won this competition last year. Head Butler Ural is in the orange shirt.
Evidently, you get credit towards your department just for participation. These three stewardesses walked most of the 60 meters.
While Keith was out on the deck he spoke with a couple of the security officers who were on duty. Because we are sailing in areas where there is a concern for pirates a few days ago approximately seven additional security personnel were brought on board the ship. This is reminiscent of a portion of the 2010 World Cruise when some additional security personnel were brought on board the ship due to the area of the world we were sailing. It is always good to know how seriously Crystal Cruises takes security and safety and clearly that is the number one priority for them.
Before dinner we attended the second World Game Thrill of Victory Medals Ceremony which was held at the Crystal Cove. Just like the first one, Gold Silver and Bronze medals were given out to each of the winners of games that took place after the first medals ceremony. The ceremony recognized winners from nine events held on February 18 and 19. This included Free Cell, Paddle Tennis Men's Singles, Backgammon, Shuffleboard Men's Doubles, Shuffleboard Men's Doubles, Paddle Tennis Ladies' Doubles, Shuffleboard Mixed Doubles, Sodoku, Trivia, and Table Tennis Mixed Doubles. For each event, winners were called up to receive their respective medals and certificates which were presented by Olympians Cathy Rigby and Peter Vidmar.
Our team received the Gold for Team Trivia!
With these medals, Keith now has three Gold Medals and Anne Marie has one.
Following the ceremony, we dined in the Crystal Dining Room and these are the dinner menus.
We had a nice time at dinner. It was great to be back in the Crystal Dining Room after being away the preceding two nights. Assistant Cruise Director, Scott Mitchel joined us for dinner. The dinner was terrific and we enjoyed catching up with Scott.
We began our meal with salads. Anne Marie had a mixed green salad which was garnished with a Julienne of Cucumbers, Radish and Yellow Squash while Keith had his standing order salad.
For our entree we each had the Grilled Swordfish Steak. It came with a Mushroom and Eggplant, which was served with Rosemary Roasted Potatoes and Anchovy Butter. The swordfish was great and it was enhanced with the items that accompanied it.
For dessert, Anne Marie enjoyed the Sugar-Free Coffee Eclair and Keith had mixed berries.
Scott had the Mascarpone and Banana Dessert which was Mascarpone Cream and Fresh Banana, Butter Cookie Crumble and Chocolate Chip Ice Cream.
We slept very well last evening as we do on most nights. The seas were calm but the gentle rocking of the ship makes it easy to fall asleep.
We had another nice day on the ship.
Our day started with Keith working out in the Fitness Center. Keith watched one of the lectures given yesterday plus the second half of the movie Thirteen Days about the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. Can you believe that come this October that this occurred fifty years ago? As Keith was watching this, he drew some parallels to the Nuclear Situation in Iran particularly as it relates to next steps. While in many ways the world has advanced so very far in fifty years, in other ways the world has seen no progress and possibly has stepped backwards. Wouldn't it be nice if the world could live in peace with nationalities working together as the fifty plus nationalities on our ship do. We can only wish for a day of peace and cooperation around the world.
Shorty after Keith returned to the room, it was Anne Marie's turn to exercise.
Afterwards, we enjoyed breakfast in our room while watching the Daily Morning Show hosted by Cruise Director Rick Spath and World Cruise Hostess Elise Levy. We wanted to mention how much we enjoy the show and that Rick and Elise do a wonderful job hosting the show. They make an outstanding team. We did know some of the answers to the trivia questions but didn't call in today as it's nice to see a wide range of our fellow guests call.
During the Captain daily talk from the bridge he noted that the weather forecast for this morning called for rain but that hopefully the weather would be better by sometime in the afternoon. Captain Glenn reminded us that it is always sunny inside the ship. The Captain's thought for the day goes as follows.
" Friends are like stars. You don't always see them but you know they are always there."
Originally, Keith planned to play the World Games Mixed Doubles Paddle Tennis scheduled for 10:00 AM this morning but unfortunately it was raining so the game could not be held. Hopefully, there it can be rescheduled to another date.
We stopped by the Lido Cafe to each have some bottled water and we sat with Becky and had a nice chat and we also enjoyed a nice chat with Celeste and Bill.
Since Keith didn't play in the tournament we attended the second Ocean Views panel which featured Shelby Coffey, Dr. Jean-Pierre Isbouts, Major General Michael O'Brien and Joseph Snyder along with Moderator Harm de Blij. We enjoyed the program a great deal as we did when it was held on the first leg of the World Cruise. We like this panel discussion because it provides a cross section of views on a particular subject and to us that is important because often there is more than one way to solve a problem. We also enjoy each guest being provided a hand held interactive device that allows us to cast our vote on a series of questions that are asked to the audience throughout the presentation so that we can see how our views compare to the rest of the guests. As was the case last time there were some surprising results. Topics that were discussed included the funding of NATO, China and the United States, The situation in Iran, the threat to Israel from the Arab uprising and a few other topics/issues. Before the program started we were asked various Trivia questions to test out the devices and to keep us entertained and as the program began we were asked a few questions including for those from the United States whether we were Democrats, Republicans or Independents and another one asking if your views were Left, Right or Center. Again, it was interesting to see how our views compared to other as the results are shown very quickly after the voting ends.
We attended Team Trivia at Noon. The last few games our team has really been playing well. Today the questions were very difficult and our team tied for first by answering 10 of 15 questions correctly. The next highest score was 8 with many teams in the 4 to 6 range. For those of you who play team trivia on other voyages the first place team for each game is considered the winner and prizes are awarded. On the World Cruise the scores are kept cumulatively so the team with the highest cumulative score for the entire segment is the winner. The only exception is for the World Games where the competition is for one game. Our cumulative score is likely not good enough to win for this segment but there is next segment.
Afterwards, we had a salad entree for lunch
In the afternoon Keith played Crystal Family Paddle Tennis where each guest is matched up with a member of the crew. We will post about that tomorrow.
Anne Marie walked for an hour and then watched Keith and the others play Paddle Tennis.
This evening we will dine in the Crystal Dining Room.
TODAY'S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY......
You see things and you say ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were and I say ‘Why not?’” ~ George Bernard Shaw
