Day 58 - SECOND DAY IN FREMANTLE/PERTH

Fun Time At Dinner Last Evening With Rabbi Morrie And His Lovely Wife Gerri ✔ Another Wonderful Day In Perth and Fremantle

NOTE: We wanted to mention that if you click on any of the menus or on any of the photos it will provide you with a larger view of each of them.

Before dinner, we stopped by the Crystal Cove to listen to pianist John Mentis.  We spoke with him for a little while as he played several songs.  We spotted Elaine so we stopped by and chatted for a few minutes before it was time to go to dinner.

Last evening we dined at the Crystal Dining Room.

These were the dinner menus.

Our guests last evening were Rabbi Morrie and his lovely wife Geri.  We have sailed with them many times over the years and it is always a pleasure to spend additional time with them over dinner.  We caught up on a number of items including our respective families.  Often you will see that we talk about the family feeling on board the ship and in addition to the warmth and familiarity from other guests we have traveled with over the years this extends to the Crystal Cruises Crew and others such as those from Crystal Cruises Enrichment Programs including lovely people such as the Rabbi and his wife.  For us, this is all part of the overall experience.

Over dinner we reminisced about some fellow guests of World Cruises who were either too ill to travel this year or have passed on.  This was yet another reminder which Keith brought up during the conversation to enjoy each day and to focus on all that is good and not get distracted by little things which in the scheme of things are rather trivial.

As usual, dinner was terrific with the wonderful service of the dining room staff and the delicious cuisine.

We began our meal with salads.  Keith had his standing order salad and Anne Marie had a Fresh Field Greens tossed salad.

Keith had the Broiled Fillet of Tasmanian Salmon entree and Anne Marie had the Pan Seared Sea Scallops entree.  We both enjoyed the entrees.   They were both delicious.  We just wish we could prepare seafood at home as well as it is done by the chefs on board the Serenity.

We also wanted to mention that what is equally impressive is the care that goes into the preparation of each item as you can hopefully pick up from these photos.  They are presented beautifully on each dish.

These are the Scallops that Anne Marie enjoyed as her entree.

This was Keith's entree and he enjoyed the Salmon as it was moist and very tasty.  The Rabbi and Gerri each had a half portion of the salmon as well.  Keith also had a baked potato and we shared steamed vegetables.

For some now comes the favorite part of the meal.  This photo is the dessert that Gerri had.

This was the dessert that Anne Marie had which believe it or not was another one of those sugar-free desserts. This one was the sugar free Almond Snowball with Vanilla Sauce.  Keith tried a little bit of Anne Marie's and, once again, it is hard to believe that this is a sugar free dessert as it was very tasty and does not leave the aftertaste that people think of when it comes to sugar-free desserts.  The care that goes into each items is just unbelievable.

Overall, the dining room was fairly quiet as we suspect that some guests were dining off the ship.  We also heard that the causal venue called Tastes was fully occupied with guests. Also with tours running yesterday and today, some guests may have also enjoyed room service in their rooms.  We tend to dine on the ship rather than in port but if we were one of those who enjoyed dining in port this is one of the places to have dined off the ship between those Italian and Seafood restaurants.

After dinner, we went back to the room and we both got an early night sleep.  When we arrived back to the room on our bed was a card and item related to this evenings event.  More on that towards the end of today's Blog.

In spite of the ship not rocking us to sleep as is the case when we are cruising the open sea we both slept very well last evening. Keith was definitely a bit tired from the fast walk competition from the day before and also from playing paddle tennis for a couple of hours that same afternoon about one hour before that race began.

We woke up early and Keith did a full workout in the Fitness Center and then he had coffee up at the Lido Cafe.  The Lido Cafe was busier than normal since many guests had either morning tours or full day tours today.

Anne Marie walked the Promenade Deck for a full one hour.  Afterwards, we had our breakfast in the room as we got ready to visit Fremantle for our second consecutive day.

After we made our way to the pier we noticed lots of cars in the parking lot and people with luggage and we looked up and saw that the Celebrity Ship was in port and passengers were disembarking.  This is the same ship that was in port with us for several of the Australian Ports.  This was the end of the cruise for the passengers and we could tell based on many of their accents that a large percentage of the passengers are from Australia.  As we walked across the bridge into town several of the passengers were pulling luggage.

We decided that we really should go to Perth today and what a wise decision we made.  We walked just five minutes over to the Train Station and bought one-way tickets for 3.80 per person in Australian Currency and took the train into Perth.  The ride only takes about 25 minutes and that is with around 15 stops.  Most of the stops are literally one minute apart and we think that really encourage people who live near each station to utilize the train system.  Once we arrived to the downtown area we got off the train and took the escalator.

Once we made our way outside we walked around the city for a few hours.  These are just some of the photos that Keith took of some of the more colorful sites.

The city was easy to get around and we felt 100% safe.  There was so much to take in and we found this to be a vibrant city.

We walked the Esplanade and visited the Supreme Court and its pretty and lush Gardens, and the Stirling House Gardens as we began our walk around the city.

We ran into a few Kangaroos on our walk.

We passed by so many interesting building and love their architecture

The interior of a little pedestrian shopping area.

After our walk, we took the train back to Fremantle. We didn't have to wait very long and we spoke with a very nice lady from a nearby town.  Like all the Aussies we have met during this trip, she was very friendly.

Back in Fremantle we walked around for awhile before it was time to go back to the ship.

When we arrived yesterday none of these new cars were on the dock.  Just on the other side of the Serenity there is another lot of new cars that was also not on the dock yesterday and numbers around the same amount shown in this photo.

After getting back on the ship we enjoyed a nice salad entree for lunch as we sat outside the Lido Cafe.

During the afternoon, Anne Marie walked for an hour and also sat by the pool and Keith read, wrote and met up with friend Bob.

This evening we will attend a special World Cruise dinner on board the ship.  This event will feature a cocktail hour, along with a dinner with entertainment between each course.  There was an early and late seating dinner and we took the late seating event.  The theme of this event is Pan Am and last night on our bed we each received a nice card from World Cruise Hostess Elise Ivy in along with two magnets that were in the shape of wings that the airplane crew would wear.

  5. Dear Anne Marie and Keith,

I can't get over the free-standing art all over Australia, it is so attractive. The photos of you with the kangaroo statues were great, especially Keith giving the kangaroo a push!

The Pam Am Mania even looked amazing! Not a detail was missed and sounded like a fantastic dinner and show. I'm sure you had a great time! Missing you both!

    Love,

    Ricki and David
