Enjoyed A Fabulous Dinner In Silk Road With Several Members Of The Crew ✔ Enjoyed Another Fantastic Day At Sea ✔ Enjoyed Playing More World Games ✔
While we did not dine in the Crystal Dining Room last evening these are the dinner menus.
Last night was another formal night on the ship. We were in the Crystal Cove before we went to dinner when we ran into Peggy, Elaine and Becky.
A couple of weeks ago we invited some very special members of the crew to join us for dinner at the Silk Road Specialty Restaurant last evening. This included entertainers David Spiecker and Karen Jeffreys, Chief Concierge Alexandra Dinu, Crew Officer Nina, Schutz, World Cruise Hostess Elise Ivy, and Shore Excursions Manager James Coughlin. Because we made the dinner arrangements for 7:00 PM we were unable to attend last nights Crystal Society Reception.
We had a fun time at dinner and we were there for three hours enjoying the wonderful service and cuisine of Silk Road and just a fabulous conversation with everyone. The size of the table was perfect allowing us to all talk together while at other times talking with the person to the left of the right of us.
We purposely sat across from one another to give us additional time to talk with those sitting nearby to us.
Since this was a formal night the specialty restaurants were not too busy as the vast majority of the guests enjoy dining in the Crystal Dining Room on Formal Nights. This evening the two Specialty Restaurants will be quite busy.
We talked about so many topics and we truly enjoyed a lot (and we do mean a lot) of good laughs with each other. These folks are the best at what they do and are just very nice and special people so it was fun hosting dinner with them.
Standing From L-R
David Spiecker. David is a very versatile singer so he appears in a variety of shows. You'll remember him as one of the performers at Pan Am Mania. Later last night he and Karen Jeffreys had Karaoke with the Guests.
James Coughlin. James is responsible for the Shore Excursion Department on board the ship. As such he has lots to do to coordinate all of the programs with the tour operators as well as all of the on board coordination. He is also very involved with the two World Cruise shoreside events and a multitude of other items.
Karen Jeffreys. Karen and David team up for many performances but like David Karen is very versatile so you will see her in a wide range of performances. We also wanted to note that both Karen and David have helped out in many of the World Cruise Events and they both attend Team Trivia to provide assistance as well.
Nina Schutz. Nina is the Crew Officer and as such as a wide range of responsibilities for the crew. We worked very closely with Nina when we planned and hosted the crew party. Nina was instrumental in making this a wonderful party for the crew.

Elise Ivy. Elise was the Pilates Instructor for the entire 2011 World Cruise and this year is the World Cruise Hostess. She provides support for so many of the World Cruise events and is someone that World Cruise guests can go to for advice, help or a wide range of items. Elise provides frequent communications and updates to us via letters that we receive from her many evenings throughout the World Cruise. She also performs in some of the special programs and co-hosts the Daily Morning Show with Cruise Director Rick Spath that we watch on sea days. She hosts Team Trivia which is held on each and every sea day and she also has an endless list of other responsibilities.
Alexandra Dinu. Alexandra is the Chief Concierge. As Chief Concierge she will be involved in many items that a concierge on land would help with. This may include providing information and assisting guest with restaurant, sporting events, theater or other reservations to setting up other activities for guest such as an all day stay at a hotel resort. The concierge will also help provide other useful information about the port or make car arrangements for guest for their post cruise transportation. If flight details or changes to flights are required for air booked with Crystal the concierge will either take care of this on their own or coordinate this with the guest through the Crystal Air and Land Department based in Los Angeles. There are so many other areas the Concierge Department is involved with from the assignments made for guests with respect to disembarkation, to tracking down any luggage that may not have made it to the ship to following up on any requests guest may have about changing rooms or room categories once they are on board the ship.
We began our meal with a champagne toast and to thank our guests for all that they do to make our cruising experience so very special.
Then we enjoyed the delicious Silk Road Food.
These are some of the appetizers and sushi and sashimi that we ordered. We had pre-ordrered these items (two plates of sushi and two plates of sashimi) ahead of time to make it easier on the Sushi Chefs and so that we could have more time for conversation.
The first item we enjoyed was a trio (we didn't take a photo of it) of white fish, yellow tail with jalupino and tuna tataki, ponzu sashimi. It was yummy.
We had two platters of these black cod lettuce wraps.
Then we had two platters of the Sushi. This included dragon, california, house special, soft shell crab, shrimp tempura, tuna and vegetable rolls.
Then there were two platters of Sashimi which included smoked salmon, tuna, yellowtail, shrimp and white fish.
We did our best to have something for everyone as we realized that not everyone likes both sushi and sashimi although many do.
We each ordered other items. Some had an appetizer while others had soup or salad. Anne Marie had a lobster spring roll and Keith had the Spicy Seafood Soup.
Next we moved on to the entrees and we both had the Nobu Lobster Entree with Anne Marie having it accompanied with Rice and Keith having it accompanied with steamed vegetables.
Anne Marie had the trio of creme brulees for dessert and Keith had the fruit place with Sherbet.
We both had decaffeinated cappuccino.
We also had chardonnay and cabernet wine which paired very well with the meal.
We slept extremely well last night as we were quite tired from staying up very late the night before. The seas were relatively calm but we did enjoy the gentle rocking of the ship.
Keith managed to get up early and enjoyed a nice workout in the Fitness Center. He was the only one in the center for his workout. He watched the lecture given the day before by Cathy Rigby. She was very open in the lecture about the challenges that she faced as she prepared for the Olympics and also the challenges she had growing up including an eating disorder she experienced and how serious it was. Keith also watched the Whitney Houston funeral which was on all of the cable new channels including those outside the United States such as Sky News and BBC.
Anne Marie also worked out and then we enjoyed breakfast to enjoy in our room as we watched the Daily Morning Show with World Cruise Hostess Elise Ivy and Cruise Director Rick Spath. They make a tremendous team both on and of the screen.
Today, we enjoyed another wonderful sea day as we sail to Bali. On a related note the schedule has been changed so the plan is to reach Bali tomorrow evening at around 9:00 PM rather than the following morning and this relates to the tides.
There were lots of activities throughout the day including three lectures; one by Harm de Blij on The Geography Behind World News, one by Major General Michael O'Brien on the role that Australia played in the Second World War; one by Jeremy Fratkin which was about colored gemstones.
At the same time there were lots of other activities. On this World Cruise there is not one, nor two but three morning Pilates Classes given the popularity of Pilates and those were held throughout the morning. There was a golf clinic, other fitness classes, a couple of yoga classes, beginners and intermediate bridge classes along with what was called an absolute beginners bridge class. There were computer classes, plus the college computer class, a spanish class. a music class, a dance class, duplicate bridge, social bridge, a needlepoint get together, memoir writing which also included a voice recognition software demonstration, a poker tournament, an arts class, a rehearsal for the Crystal Corus and several other activities.
Two movies were also shown on the big screen in the Hollywood Theatre.
On top of this the World Games continued with Team Trivia, Mixed Table Tennis Doubles, Mixed Doules Shuffleboard, and Sudoku.
Keith played shuffleboard and was matched up with fellow guest June. They advanced far enough that if they would have won their final game they would have then played for either a Gold, Silver and Bronze but they actually lost in a tie breaker. Ironically, Bob was matched with the wife (Heather) of the husband (Tommy) who played with Glo and Bob and Heather won the first match. Win or lose it's always a lot of fun and we got to talk with some guests for the very first time along with others we know quite well.

Instead of our normal Team Trivia, today our team participated in Team Trivia for the World Games. The three teams with the top points for answered questions were awarded with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively. The good news is that the team we play on which includes Bob, Glo, Sandy, Brian, Louise, Arlene and the two of us won the Gold by having the highest score in today's game. Later this afternoon we will each receive our Gold Medals.
After Team Trivia Anne Marie enjoyed a nice Chefs Salad while Keith played Paddle Tennis. Once finished playing Paddle Tennis Keith had a tuna salad entree.
Anne Marie walked in the afternoon and also sat out by the pool. Keith met up with friend Bob and also did reading and writing.
Later in the evening we will dine in the Crystal Dining Room after being away for the last two days.
We will post about dinner and the Awards Ceremony tomorrow.
The seas have been very smooth the entire day. Because of the humidity it is fairly hot outside when playing Paddle Tennis but that is all fine. We will take the hot over the cold.
This World Cruise adventure has been superb.
We have much to be thankful for.

As to food on top of the wide array of dining choices, today there was a Sunday (remember it is Sunday here) Brunch which also included complimentary mimosas and champagne.

I'm reading this at 8:30a Sunday morning and I just decided what I am having for dinner - SUSHI! Thos pictures make my mouther water! With the early arrival into Bali, if one desired, could they get off the ship or would they have to wait until the next morning for the ship to be cleared by officials?
